Intellectual Property Policy
Last updated:
Embroidered family titles are a simple idea: a word like Mama, Nana or Auntie, a year, a few first names and a small clover of hearts. Keeping them simple is also how we keep them respectful of other people’s rights. This Intellectual Property Policy explains what belongs to Clover Stitch, what we will and will not embroider, how we handle personalisation requests that touch on someone else’s brand, and how rights owners can report a concern about trademarks, designs and other rights. Copyright notices follow the separate process on our DMCA page.
Intellectual property at a glance
- Our designs: created by Clover Stitch; please do not copy them.
- No licensed names: we do not embroider sports team names, brand names, character names, logos or catchphrases.
- Personalisation: family titles, years and first names only; requests that use someone else’s protected material are refused and refunded.
- Report a concern: email [email protected] with “IP report” in the subject; first reply within 24 hours on business days.
- Copyright: use the DMCA process.
1. What belongs to Clover Stitch
The following are owned by Clover Stitch or used with permission:
- the name “Clover Stitch” and our logo, including the four-leaf clover made of four hearts with a dashed stitch line;
- our embroidery designs and layouts — for example the clover-heart mama mark, the arched MAMA lettering arrangement, the wildflower wreath, the lavender sprig sleeve, the bear outline and the heart with names beneath it;
- product names, descriptions, page text, the homepage builder band and other content on cloverstitch.shop;
- product and banner photographs created for the shop.
Buying a product gives you the product. It does not give you the right to reproduce its design for sale, upload our photos to another shop or marketplace, or copy our descriptions. You are of course welcome to share photos of your own family wearing their sweatshirts.
1.1 Common words stay common
Words such as “mama”, “nana”, “grandma”, “auntie”, “sister” and “est.” belong to everyone. We do not claim them, and we do not object when others use them. What we ask is that nobody copies our particular designs, photographs or text.
2. What we will not embroider
Every design in our shop is our own, and every personalisation field is meant for your family’s titles, years and names. We do not offer, suggest or accept:
- names or logos of sports teams, leagues, colleges or clubs;
- brand names, product names or company logos;
- names, catchphrases or likenesses of cartoon, film, television, game or book characters;
- song lyrics, famous quotes protected by copyright, or slogans owned by someone else;
- names of celebrities or public figures used to suggest endorsement.
Our product pages never pre-fill or suggest such names. The examples we use — “Mama est. 2019”, “Ava, Leo, Mia”, “Ellie”, “Theo” — are ordinary first names and family titles.
3. How we handle personalisation requests
| Type of text | Our decision | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Family title, year, first names | Accepted | Embroidered exactly as typed |
| Family nickname (Gigi, Mimi, Tia, Titi) | Accepted | Embroidered exactly as typed |
| Team, brand or character name | Refused | We email you; you can change the text within the change window or we cancel and refund the item |
| Text that copies a protected phrase or lyric | Refused | Same as above |
| Unclear case | We ask you first | Nothing is made until it is resolved |
If we refuse a request, the refund is in full and arrives as described in our Refund Policy. We do not keep any fee.
4. Names that look like brands
Real life is messy. A grandchild might share a first name with a famous character, or a family surname might also be a company name. A first name or surname that genuinely belongs to your family is not a brand, and we will embroider it. What matters is how the text is used: “Ava, Leo, Mia” on a grandma sleeve is a list of grandchildren; the same name written in a character’s signature style, with that character’s catchphrase, is not. If we are unsure, we email you and ask about the context before anything is made. We never assume the worst, and we never make the item first and ask later.
5. Why our shop has no licensed products
Customers sometimes ask whether we can add their favourite team colours with the team name, or a beloved cartoon character next to “Nana”. We understand why — those things matter to families. But using a team’s name, a character or a brand on products for sale requires a licence from the owner, and we do not hold such licences. Instead, every design in our shop is drawn for Clover Stitch, and the personal part comes from your family: the title she earned, the year it began, the names that made her that. You can still choose colours you love: our sweatshirts and thread colours are plain colours, not anyone’s trademarked colour scheme.
6. Questions customers ask
Can I add our family’s last name?
Yes, where a product has a text field long enough for it. A family surname is your own name.
Can I copy a design I saw somewhere else onto your sweatshirt?
No. We only make our own designs, with your titles, years and names added in the personalisation fields.
Can I use a font that matches a famous logo?
Our designs use the lettering shown on each product page. We do not recreate logo lettering, even for a word that is not a brand.
What if my request is refused?
We email you before making anything. You can change the text within the 24-hour change window, or we cancel the item and refund it in full.
Can I order a sweatshirt with my small business name for my team?
Our shop is built around family titles and names, not company logos or business branding, so we do not take logo or business-name orders. If you own the business name and want to ask about it anyway, email us and we will answer honestly.
Do your photos show real customers?
No. Our product images show our products, not customers, and we do not publish customer photos or names. Any example names you see on product images or in our text are made up.
7. Reporting a trademark or other rights concern
If you believe a product, design, image, name or text on cloverstitch.shop infringes your trademark, design right, right of publicity or another intellectual property right, please email [email protected] with “IP report” in the subject line and include:
- your name, the name of the rights owner (if different), postal address, telephone number and email address;
- a description of the right — for a registered trademark, the registration number and country; for an unregistered right, how and where it is used;
- the exact page addresses on cloverstitch.shop where the material appears;
- an explanation of why you believe it infringes your right;
- a statement that the information in your report is accurate and that you are the rights owner or authorised to act for them;
- your physical or electronic signature (your typed full name is accepted).
Postal reports can be sent to Clover Stitch, 2314 Chand Road, Joppa, MD 21085, US. Email is faster.
8. What we do with a report
- Acknowledge: we confirm receipt within 24 hours on business days and ask for anything missing.
- Review: we look at the material and the right you describe.
- Act: where the report is complete and the concern is reasonable, we remove the material, stop selling the product or change the design. We may pause sales while we review.
- Respond: we tell you what we did. If we decide not to act, we explain why and invite any further information.
- Customers: if a product is withdrawn, customers with open orders are offered a full refund or another design. We handle that ourselves.
We review reports in good faith and do not ask rights owners to deal with our customers. If you prefer to discuss a concern informally before sending a formal report, just email us.
9. Disagreements about a report
If we removed something because of a report and you are the person who supplied it — for example a customer whose personalisation was refused — and you believe the decision was wrong, email us with your reasons and any evidence, such as proof that a name is your family’s surname rather than a brand. We will look at it again and, where appropriate, put the two parties in touch or restore the material. For copyright, the counter-notice steps on the DMCA page apply.
10. Using Clover Stitch material
You may link to our pages and share photos of products you bought. You may not:
- copy our designs onto products for sale;
- use our name, logo or clover-heart mark in a way that suggests you are us or are connected with us;
- copy our product descriptions or page text into another shop or marketplace listing;
- use our photographs without permission.
If you would like to use our material — for example in an article about family gifts — email us and ask. We are happy to say yes when we can.
11. If you see a copy of our work
If you see a Clover Stitch design, photo or description being sold or used by someone else, we would be grateful to hear about it. Email us the link. It helps us protect the designs our customers chose from us.
12. Rights in different countries
We sell to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and intellectual property rights can differ between these countries. When you report a concern, please tell us which country’s right you rely on. We apply this policy the same way to reports from all four countries.
13. Repeat problems
If a customer repeatedly submits personalisation that uses protected names after being told it cannot be accepted, we may refuse further orders from them. If a supplier or partner repeatedly provides infringing material, we stop working with them.
14. Related policies and contact
