Size Guide
Last updated:
Choosing a size for someone else is the hardest part of buying a sweatshirt as a gift, and it is even harder when the someone is a toddler who grows every month or a grandmother who “just wants it comfy”. This guide explains how our sizes are labelled, how to measure a garment that already fits, how to choose between two sizes and what to do if you get it wrong. We have not published a measurement chart yet, so this guide is about how to choose rather than exact numbers; if you need a specific measurement for a product, email us and we will tell you what we know.
Sizes at a glance
- Adult tops (crewnecks, hoodies, tees, long sleeve): S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL — relaxed unisex fit.
- Kids (crewnecks, Kids Name, Big Sister/Big Brother, the mini in the matching set): 2T, 3T, 4T, YXS, YS, YM, YL.
- Baby bodysuit: 0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 12-18M, 18-24M.
- Dad hats and tote: one size; hats adjust with a back strap.
- Wrong size? Exchange or return within 60 days of delivery with a free return label.
How our adult sizes fit
All our adult crewnecks, hoodies and tees are cut as relaxed unisex garments. “Unisex” means the shape is straighter through the body than a garment cut specifically for women, with a little more room at the waist and hips. Most of our customers describe the fit as easy and comfortable rather than fitted.
A simple rule of thumb
- Usual size: an easy, comfortable fit with room for a thin layer underneath.
- One size up: a roomier, oversized look; good for layering over a shirt or for someone who likes sleeves over the hands.
- One size down: a neater fit for people who usually find unisex tops wide — mainly relevant for tees.
If you know the person usually wears women’s sizes, their usual women’s size often corresponds to the same letter or one size down in a unisex top. Because that varies between people and brands, measuring a favourite garment (below) is more reliable than converting labels.
How to measure a sweatshirt that already fits
The most reliable way to choose is to measure a sweatshirt or hoodie that the person already loves and compare it with the one you are buying. You need a flat surface and a soft tape measure or a ruler.
- Lay it flat. Place the sweatshirt face up on a table or bed, smooth out wrinkles, and do not stretch the fabric.
- Chest width: measure straight across the front from one side seam to the other, about one inch below the armholes.
- Body length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, straight down to the bottom of the hem.
- Sleeve length: measure from the shoulder seam along the top of the sleeve to the end of the cuff.
- Write it down and email us with the product you are considering. We will tell you which of our sizes is the closest match based on the information we have for that garment.
For a gift, you can often borrow a sweatshirt quietly from the laundry basket, or ask another family member to measure one without spoiling the surprise.
Choosing between two sizes
| Situation | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| She likes to layer a shirt or turtleneck underneath | Choose the larger size |
| She prefers a neat look and rolls up long sleeves | Choose the smaller size |
| The gift is a hoodie for cold mornings outdoors | Choose the larger size |
| The gift is a short-sleeve tee | Choose her usual size or the smaller one |
| You are not sure at all | Choose the larger size; a roomy sweatshirt is rarely unwelcome, and exchanges are free within 60 days |
Sizing for grandmothers
Grandma gifts are where we see the most size exchanges, usually because the giver remembers a size from years ago. A few tips that families have found useful: ask a sibling who sees her often; look at the label of a cardigan or sweatshirt she wears all the time; think about how she wears things — over a blouse, open with a vest, or as a cosy layer at home. Many grandmothers enjoy one size up for comfort. If you are ordering the Grandma Grandkids’ Names Sleeve Crewneck, remember the names run down the left sleeve, so a sleeve that is too long will bunch the names at the wrist; this is one more reason to measure a sweatshirt she already likes.
Sizing for kids
Our kids sizes run 2T, 3T and 4T for toddlers, then YXS, YS, YM and YL for youth. Kids pieces are sized for comfort and room to move.
- Use their current clothes: check the size on a sweatshirt that fits them now and measure it as described above.
- Think ahead: if the gift will be opened weeks after you order, or worn through a whole season, choose one size up.
- Announcement photos: for a Big Sister or Big Brother sweatshirt, choose the size the child will wear on the day of the photo or the birth.
- Between toddler and youth: children moving out of 4T often fit YXS or YS; measuring a current sweatshirt is the best guide.
For the Kids Name sweatshirt, the name is embroidered across the chest; on a size that is much too large, the name sits lower than intended. Another reason not to size up by more than one.
Sizing for babies
The Little Clover baby bodysuit comes in 0-3M, 3-6M, 6-12M, 12-18M and 18-24M. Baby sizes are based on age in months, but babies vary a lot. For a newborn gift, 0-3M fits the first weeks and 3-6M gives room to grow. For an older baby, choose by the size of the clothes they wear now, and if in doubt, go up one.
The Matching Mama & Mini set
In the set you choose the adult size and the kids size separately, from the same ranges as above: adult S to 3XL and kids 2T to YL. Measure for each person as described in this guide. If one of the two sizes turns out wrong, email us before sending anything back and we will help you find the simplest fix.
Hats and the tote
Our dad hats are unstructured low-profile caps in one size, with an adjustable strap at the back that fits most adult heads. The Nana canvas tote is one size. There is nothing to choose for either, which makes them good last-minute gifts.

A quick size worksheet
When you are ordering for several people, note these details for each person before you start. It takes five minutes and avoids most exchanges.
- Name of the person and the title on their piece (Mama, Nana, Auntie, or the child’s name).
- The size label in a sweatshirt they wear often.
- Chest width and body length of that sweatshirt, measured flat.
- How they like to wear it: neat, easy or oversized.
- For children: their age on the day the gift will be worn, not today.
- The exact spelling of every name to be embroidered.
Where the embroidery sits on each size
Our designs are placed relative to the collar and the centre of the chest, so on every size the title sits where you would expect it on the chest. On a much larger size than the wearer needs, the design can sit lower on the body than intended, and sleeve embroidery can end closer to the wrist. Choosing the size that fits — rather than going up two sizes — keeps the embroidery where it looks best.
Shrinkage and care
Washing and drying habits affect how any garment fits over time. To keep the size you chose, we suggest washing inside out on a gentle cool cycle and drying on low or laying flat. Avoid hot tumble drying, and do not iron directly on the embroidery. Always follow the care label inside the garment.

Size questions we hear often
Do the hoodies fit the same as the crewnecks?
Both are relaxed unisex fits. A hoodie has a hood and a drawstring, so it can feel a little more substantial around the neck and shoulders. If you are between sizes for a hoodie, the larger size is usually the safer choice.
Is 3XL available in every design?
All our adult tops are offered in S to 3XL. The size options on each product page always show what you can order.
Do bigger sizes cost more?
No. Every size of a product has the same price.
Can you tell me the exact measurements of a size?
Email us with the product and the size and we will share what we know. We prefer to give you a straight answer by email rather than publish numbers we cannot stand behind for every garment.
Should a sweatshirt for a pregnant mama be bigger?
Many expecting mothers choose one or two sizes up for comfort over the bump, then keep wearing it oversized afterwards. If you are unsure, the larger size is the safer choice, and exchanges are free within 60 days.
